How To Clean your Mouse
Some of us still like the old school style of using a
roller ball mouse. From constant usage, it will get dirty and the worse
it gets, the more the mouse seems to be defective. Cleaning it
regularly increases its effectiveness and prolongs its lifetime so that
you don’t need to upgrade or change it every time. Cleaning it is not
as difficult as people are led to believe.
We start off by finding where you should start the cleaning process.
Looking at the bottom of the mouse, you will find one or two screws
holding the ball inside of the casing. Newer models sometimes only
consist of a turn lock plastic module. Unscrew these screws or twist
the module to release the ball inside. Next, gently unclip the top of
the casing of the mouse which is generally kept in place by plastic
clips, so be careful not to break them. Upon opening the mouse, you
will find a circuit board inside. Gently remove this and place it in a
non static environment and take note on how it was originally placed
inside for when you reassemble the mouse.
By using warm water and soap in a bowl, submerge the casing into the
water and wash until it’s clean, being careful around the buttons. The
bottom of the mouse still has the wheels and ball attached to it and
the top halve has the buttons. While the casing of the mouse is being
soaked in the water, use a q-tip and clean off the dirt from your
circuit board and spring attached to it. The cable can be cleaned using
a dampened cloth to wipe it, watching that no unnecessary water or
fluid touches the port that is inserted into the computer.
After the soaking and washing of the casing, dry it thoroughly and
reassemble the device in the same pattern as you disassembled it. After
every part has been cleaned, reattach the mouse back into your computer
and enjoy the freshly cleaned mouse.
