How To Clean Your Monitor
Our computer monitors accumulate dust over a period of time. So how
exactly should you go about cleaning it?
There are two types of monitors available today. One is the flat screen
or LCD monitors and the other is the old faithful CRT monitors. Both
these screen types require different methods of cleaning even though
they both take about 5 minutes to clean.
To clean LCD or flat Screen monitors, you’ll firstly need a dry,
gentle, soft cloth to wipe the screen with. Switch the monitor off. The
monitor doesn’t always need to be switched off while cleaning it but it
is better if you do because the dirt will be a lot more visible when
the screen is dark. Using the dry, soft cloth, gently wipe the monitor
to remove the dust. Never press too hard on the surface of the screen
as too much pressure can cause the pixels to burn out. If there is any
build-up of oil from grubby fingers, slightly wet the cloth with
distilled water. Try to avoid using things like soft paper products at
all times. A material that is made of a very soft cloth, like the one
you receive when buying reading glasses or sun glasses, works best. The
plastic sides of the screen may be cleaned with multi purpose cleansers
but avoid using it on the screen’s main surface. Try to avoid a
cleanser that may consist of harmful chemicals like ammonia and acids.
Also, never apply or spray any liquid directly on the LCD monitor for
it may leak into its components and damage the internal machinery.
Your CRT screen models are a lot less fussy when it comes to cleaning.
Still, you must avoid any form of direct spray or liquid as any
internal leakage may short circuit the monitor. Avoid using anything
with a rough texture like paper towels and toilet paper, for it will
damage the screens surface. For a gentle and proper cleaning, switch
off your screen to reveal where the dust and dirt has built up on the
screen. Next, use a soft, dampen cloth to wipe all the dirt away. Glass
cleaner may be used on the dampen cloth to wipe the remaining dirt away
if the dirt is a bit reluctant to come off, but use it only if your CRT
has a glass screen. You can use multi purpose cleansers on the plastic
frame around the monitor surface, but avoid any cleansers with harsh
chemicals.
