How to Remove Dust from Computer
In today’s age and time, we all find ourselves surrounded
with various forms of technology at home. We not only get to deal with
software maintenance but also physical maintenance. The most common
problem we find is dust and dirt, and we don’t always know how to clean
the delicate hardware components.
Dust can cause major problems with our computers for dust can build up
in and on our system, and can cause the computer to get
overheated due to the fact that it blocks vital air flow
points. But there are various ways to minimize the dust build-up and
clean the dust away fast and safely. As we all know, prevention is
better than cure. To minimize the build up of dust on the computers
components try to avoid smoking, drinking and eating around your
computer and avoid placing your computer directly on a carpeted or
wooden surface.
When cleaning your computer, try and use only the following items:
• Cloth – Dampen, and for external use
only
• Rubbing Alcohol – Preferred choice
over water
• Portable Vacuum Cleaner – For
vacuuming around your system
• Cotton Swabs – Small, hard to reach
places
• Soft Paint Brush – Especially useful
for fans
Here are a few cleaning tips to keep in mind when cleaning your
computer:
• Avoid any fluids in or around your computer. If it is needed to spray
or wash anything, use a dampen cloth on the exterior of the computer,
but never inside it.
• Vacuum around the computer system, and never inside it, for the
device causes a static pulse which may damage the internal components.
• Ensure your computer is off when cleaning it.
• Never clean with solvents
• When cleaning the fans, hold it firmly in place to prevent the blades
from turning.
To
clean the inside of the computer you can typically remove a side of the
case by removing two or three screws from the back and sliding the case
off. Before cleaning the inside of the computer be sure to unplug it
from all power sources as it is very easy to cause a short and damage
system components. With the case side removed you may blow the dust and
dirt out using compressed air and or a vacuum. Make sure to blow out
the dust which gathers around the cpu fan on the motherboard. This
buildup causes excessive heating of components and early failure. With
as much dust as we have in the Imperial Valley, cleaning at least every
6 months will significantly prolong the life of your system.
